Swedish automaker, Volvo, is redefining luxury and raising the bar for eco-friendly design with its all-electric EX90 SUV. Highlighting the perfect blend of advanced design principles, environmental consciousness, and the essence of Scandinavian lifestyle, the vehicle not only stands out on the roads but also sets a new standard in the automobile industry.
The interior design of the Volvo EX90 is spearheaded by Lisa Reeves, the Head of Interior Design at Volvo Cars, who, alongside her talented team, has chosen materials meant to create lasting impressions. Keeping sustainability at the forefront, these materials originate from natural, recycled, and renewable sources. The objective is not only to create a visually pleasing and comfortable environment but to showcase the company's core values and Scandinavian roots.
A notable innovation in the Volvo EX90 is the introduction of Nordico upholstery. This material is crafted from textiles derived from recycled PET bottles and bio-attributed polymer from Swedish and Finnish forests. Its intricate texture of ridges and valleys offers a tactile experience, echoing the natural world. The choice to replace conventional fabric with the Nordico material signifies Volvo's reinterpretation of luxury – favouring circularity and sustainability over excess.
The Volvo EX90 also features a Nativa-certified wool blend seat finishing, which adheres to strict sustainability standards on animal welfare, environmental, and social issues. It carries the Performance Certification from the Woolmark Company, further validating its environmental credentials.
The SUV’s commitment to sustainable design extends to FSC-certified wood panels around the cabin and carpets made partially from regenerated polyamide. Cumulatively, these measures result in the Volvo EX90 incorporating nearly 50 kilograms of recycled plastics and bio-based materials – the highest percentage of non-primary fossil-based materials across Volvo's car lineup.
In a nod to Scandinavian design principles, Volvo offers customers the ability to customise their car's interior with a selection from seven different “rooms”. Each room provides a distinct mood, influenced by colour, upholstery, and material finish, reflective of the close connection to nature inherent in Scandinavian lifestyle.
The Volvo EX90's interior is lit by SunLike LEDs, creating an ambiance close to natural sunlight, enhancing the natural colour expression of the materials used, and making the vehicle’s wood deco and sustainable materials stand out.
