An Overview of the 2023 Volvo XC40 Powertrains

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is a compact luxury SUV that offers drivers a number of cutting-edge features and technology. One of the most impressive aspects of the XC40 is its powertrain options. With three choices, drivers can pick a powertrain that best suits their needs and budget. Let’s take a look at each of these available powertrains for this model year.

B4 AWD mild hybrid

The first option for the 2023 Volvo XC40 is the B4 AWD mild hybrid option. It produces 194 horsepower. This engine offers great performance while still providing excellent fuel efficiency, with an estimated 7.6L/100km on the highway. This engine also comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth shifts and responsive acceleration as well as all-wheel-drive capability.

B5 AWD mild hybrid

The next option for the 2023 Volvo XC40 is the B5 AWD mild hybrid, which offers increased performance over the B4 with a total output of 247 horsepower. While it does offer increased performance, such as reaching 100km/h in only 6.4 seconds, you don’t have to sacrifice fuel economy as it still returns an estimated 7.9L/100km on the highway. Like the B4 engine, this one also comes with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth shifts and responsive acceleration.

Recharge Electric Motor

The last option for this model is the Recharge all-electric variant, which combines dual electric motors and a battery to provide a total output of 402 horsepower. This powerhouse can reach 100km/h from a standstill in only 4.9 seconds. And the advanced high-capacity battery provides up 359km of range on a full charge. Truly, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is a marvel of engineering.

All three powertrain options offer something unique to drivers looking for a compact luxury SUV, so it's important to consider your personal needs before choosing one over another. If you need maximum performance without sacrificing too much fuel efficiency, then go for the B5 gasoline engine; if you want more fuel efficiency without sacrificing power, then opt for the B4 or Recharge hybrid engines. If you value sustainability above all else, not to mention all-electric power, then choose the Recharge. No matter what though you're sure to appreciate everything that these sophisticated electrified powertrains will bring to your driving experience!

No matter what your decision regarding which powertrain to choose will be - make sure you talk to our dealership about any questions you may have about them. We'll be more than happy to help guide you towards making your decision in order to ensure you get exactly what you need out of your new Volvo XC40!
