A Look at the Differences in Space Between the New Volvo XC40 and Volvo XC60

If you are interested in a new Volvo SUV but you have trouble deciding between the XC40 and the XC60, your needs in terms of passenger and cargo space could help you choose the model that is best for you.

If you need more passenger room

If you regularly need to transport four or five passengers in your vehicle, the larger Volvo XC60 could be a great choice for you due to its more generous interior dimensions versus the XC40. This means that the XC60 offers more legroom and more shoulder room to both front and rear passengers, which allows every occupant to stretch out on longer trips and feel more comfortable even when all seats are occupied. If you or your passengers are very tall, however, the increased headroom found in the XC40 could be beneficial, despite the slightly tighter legroom.

If cargo is what you carry

Here again, the Volvo XC60 proves to be better if you regularly transport passengers while the XC40 happens to have an ace up its sleeve. Indeed, the cargo compartment of the XC60 is larger than the XC40’s when the rear seats are in place since it offers up to 484 litres of storage versus 453 litres in the XC40. However, this changes when there are only one or two occupants in the vehicle since the XC40 takes the upper hand with the rear seats folded, opening up 1,328 litres of space against the 833 litres found in the XC60. This means that very large objects will fit better in the XC40 while a family’s set of luggage will be better accommodated in the XC60

If you need a smaller exterior

Due to its smaller footprint and its narrower body, the Volvo XC40 is easier to manoeuvre in tight parking lots and city streets than the Volvo XC60. This means that the XC40 could be a better choice if you often need to parallel park or drive on narrow streets. This isn’t to say that the larger XC60 is cumbersome, however, since it benefits from the same turning radius as the XC40 and its available 360-degree camera system makes it easy to place exactly where you want it to be in a parking space on the first try.
